APMG UK Showcase 2014 – Overview

APMG UK Showcase 2014 – the flagship event for knowledge sharing and networking took place on a sweltering hot day in July.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at this year’s UK APMG Showcase to make it a memorable event. From the onset the QEII in Westminster was brimming with attendees – resulting in avid networking, polite conversation and bacon consumption.

We enjoyed a full-house as the event kicked off with an amusing, thought-provoking keynote speech from world-renowned behavioral economist and award-winning Financial Times columnist, Tim Harford.

Opening keynote with Tim Harford

Tim discussed why it’s important to make mistakes in business – explaining that it’s only by learning from our mistakes that we can continue to learn and grow, and deliver innovation.

After Tim’s presentation delegates chose from an array of interesting Birds of a Feather (BoF) roundtable discussions, which took place throughout the event.  The BoF hosts did an exceptional job of immersing people in their subject matter – tables were surrounded by people fully engaged in discussion.

Each table was equipped with an iPad – allowing people to express their thoughts on discussions via a live feed displayed in the main showroom.

The Masterclasses were equally successful – with packed rooms being blasted with first-rate insight from passionate speakers. Insight was given into a range of project management subjects – including Change Management, Agile Project Management and professional best practice.

Particularly well received; the Masterclass featuring Dave Watson and Keith Richards, KRC and Mars Ltd respectively – demonstrating the benefits of integrating Agile into a large organization like Mars. Similarly well received; Agile Change Management Ltd Director, Melanie Franklin’s enthusiastic session on aligning PRINCE2® and AgilePM®.

The illustrious Keynote speaker and business educator, Eddie Obeng was in attendance via virtual space, demonstrating his learning platform Qube – albeit with a generous amount of technical issues. But if nothing else – those technical shortcomings reinforced Tim Harford’s teachings that mistakes are inevitable on the journey to success.

The event closed with a speech from APMG’s CEO, Richard Pharro- extending his gratitude to everyone who made this year’s event possible. As part of the main event all delegates where issued with a complimentary raffle ticket to win one of three fantastic prizes donated by Richard Pharro:

1st Prize: Amazon Kindle preloaded with access to 3,000 publications on the Van Haren library
